Original Holograph Ms. for the Simon Templar short story "Pearls Before Wine"
46 pages in Charteris’s hand, written with two different pens, on the verso of the defunct Bond-Charteris Enterprises’ printed production forms. Bound in a three ring, brad-fastened folder titled and signed by the author, with an extraordinary three page holograph letter (Hollywood, 28 March 47) presenting the piece, signed by Charteris with his “Saint” drawing. He describes his writing methods and notes the rarity of his manuscripts as he generally dictated or typed his fiction and, therefore finding them clean and uninteresting when returned from the publisher, he discarded them. Accounting for this exception to his usual practice, he describes writing this story in longhand because his secretary was otherwise occupied on his typewriters. Very good or better; in a custom folding box (minor wear).
