Funerealities

London: Aldergate Press, 1925. First Edition. One of 250 numbered copies containing a signed original etching by Bacon (the frontispiece: “The Widow and The Grass Widow”). Additionally, signed by Bacon on the front free-endpaper. Fine. “Grass Widow,” a disparaging term, now long fallen out of favor, shares the disdain and obsolescence of numerous epithets and slurs primarily of a racial, ethnic, or sexual nature. Such terms might retain a historical spot, and that shouldn’t be erased or ignored, but they need not be treasured. Good riddance - these have no place in current discourse, civil or otherwise. All books described as first editions are first printings unless otherwise noted.
