Approximately 11 1/2 x 8 ”; publisher’s wrappers, the front of which is printed and illustrated with an engraved scene of Florence; cloth spine (likely renewed or provided at an early date); excellent condition. Consisting of 20 exceptional vibrant and detailed aquatints. A memento of the Grand Tour, which took the participants on lengthy journeys (primarily in the 18th and 19th centuries) to the great cities of Europe, something affordable only to the wealthy, the nobility, and the occasional other prominent person. The extension of tourism to the masses lay decades in the future, and their souvenirs were modest: tchotkes, ashtrays, menus, postcards, etc.. All books described as first editions are first printings unless otherwise noted.
