New York: Nickolas Muray, n.d. [1920s?]. Approximately 9 1/2 x 6 1/2”. This three-quarter length portrait shows the youngish Cather in a silk blouse and pleated skirt, with a kimono style gown draped over her shoulders. Inscribed by the author in a light area at the upper left corner, “For Ida Todd, An old friend of mine and a lover of beautiful voices. Willa Cather.” Unfortunately, a neatly mended diagonal crack, far less disfiguring than it sounds, runs across the upper part of the image, through the author’s face.
