Mottke the Vagabond (Mottke Ganef) by Sholom Ash

Boston: John W. Luce, 1917. First American Edition; first edition in English. “Translated and Edited by Isaac Goldberg, Ph. D.” Owner’s signature; good to very good. This cataloguer is not qualified to critique this translation, but points out that a “ganef” is commonly translated as a “thief,” not a vagabond. To judge from this single word, one suspects that this translation might be a bit soft-pedaled.
