Chicago: American Plate and Picture Company, 1903. First and likely only edition. Folio; consisting of unusual rough gray leaves with mounted half-tones by Brownell and printed text, each preceded by a tissue printing text and page numbers. The text is by Brownell and others. Blue cloth; the front board decorated in black and white with the title and an inset half tone of a child. An excellent copy with only light rubbing, and a few minor tears here and there. While the title page notes a price of $1.50, this cataloguer doubts whether this was actually generally offered for sale as this volume appears more likely to have been a showcase, an expensive sample of the work this firm could accomplish, likely produced in a small number for prominent potential clients. Of course, this is supposition or speculation, but not without some basis in experience.
