The first volume has been inscribed on the title page by the author, “Given to the Community Bazaar by A. Conan Doyle, June, 1928.” Opposite the title page, on the list of Doyle’s previous books, there are two small ink spots, the largest of which has been pointed to by Doyle and initialled “ACD.” Doyle was very generous with such donations; many of his manuscripts were specially bound and auctioned for charitable causes.
