Phineas Kahn: Portrait of an Immigrant
London: Jonathan Cape, 1937. First Edition. Very good in dust jacket. Presentation copy; inscribed by the author in the year of publication. Blumenfeld was a mysterious figure, whose claim to being Jewish remains dubious (his family was Sicilian, at least immediately). However, one might ask who would claim that who was not? Okay, perhaps some might, but to have done so at that period might not have been the most advisable time to do so. Steven Berkoff, the outspoken English actor, wrote an introduction for the novel’s 1988 re-issue.
