Boston: James R. Osgood, 1875-1876. Comprising sixteen issues; folio; each in original printed wrappers and with four plates (some photographic, some reproductions of drawings) of interiors and exteriors of residences, commercial and institutional buildings, as well as monuments, all by prominent architects of the day. Included are the following issues: July, August, September, October, November and December 1875. January, March, April, May, July, August, September, October, November and December, 1876. Several bear the pencil ownership inscription of H[enry] Richards. At this time, Richards was a draughtsman at Peabody and Stearns (whose work is well-represented herein), one of the most successful firms of the late 19th century. Later, he began his own architectural practice and married the daughter of Julia Ward Howe, Laura E. Richards, herself a successful writer. At least one issue is split along the spine, and several suffer from minor staining; overall, the condition is excellent.
