London: Tinsley Brothers, 1868. First Edition. Three volumes; original publisher’s cloth; some cloth wear; spines cocked; occasional page staining and foxing; a good to very good set. This is a presentation copy, inscribed by the author to his sister-in-law, “Mrs. W. LeFanu from The Author.” Le Fanu was one of 19th century Ireland’s finest authors, largely forgotten until his reputation was revived by M.R. James. Listed in Hubin’s Crime Fiction Bibliography, but probably marginal in crime content. A very scarce book, especially in original cloth; presentation copies are notably rare.
