No place of publication (presumably Culver City, California): MGM (presumably), . Approximately overall 29 1/2 x 39 1/2”; framed and glazed. An illustration board has been titled in black lettering “Stars of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios send Greetings to Jack Flynn,” and has 23 oval cut-outs, each about 5 x 3/1/2,” with photos of their stars, each of which has been signed (some inscribed) in ink (a little faded) on the mat under their pictures. This was prepared for a convention in Chicago of executives and distributors touting the coming season’s releases (an occasion for which MGM produced a short promotional film “MGM’s March On In 1934-1935”). Flynn, who appeared briefly in this film, was one of the company’s important distributors. Presumably, given that he was in management, it is unlikely that few, if any, similarly lavish gifts were provided to other attendees. The signed portraits include Mickey Rooney, Norma Shearer, Robert Taylor, William Powell, Myrna Loy, Clark Gable, Harpo, Chico and Groucho Marx (under a single photo), Jimmy Stewart, Lionel Barrymore, Spencer Tracy, Robert Montgomery, Eleanor Powell, Greer Garson, Hedy Lamarr, Judy Garland, Nelson Eddy, Greta Garbo, Joan Crawford, Wallace Beery, Jeanette MacDonald, Lana Turner, Ann Southern and Rosalind Russell. The photos and illustration board have been archivally preserved and properly mounted. An impressive presentation.
