WHITE, T.H
Corrected Typescript of his Novel, The Master
Bound in cloth; 233 pages; 1957; quarto; inscribed by the author with a humorous drawing to the broadcaster and journalist John Arlott at Christmas, 1957. A very late work, the novel is a retelling of Shakespeare’s The Tempest. The title page is in the author’s hand, crossing out the original title, “Don’t Say Die,” and writing in below, “The Master.” There is a holograph dedication page, with instructions to the printer, and a subsequent leaf with a holograph quotation from The Tempest. The typescript is heavily annotated by White, with more than a thousand words in his hand. Aside from some old tape removed from the title page, in excellent condition.
