Jeffries Wyman, a correspondent of Darwin, was Hersey Professor of Anatomy and later, the curator of the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology at Harvard. With Louis Agassiz and Asa Gray he made Harvard America’s foremost center for the study of natural history.
